A disease is defined as "an impairment of health or a condition of abnormal functioning". An equine hoof disease therefore is an impairment of the health or normal function of the equine hoof. Horses are a naturally sturdy animal. With proper care and living conditions, horses can still contract a disease of the hoof by the occasional fluke occurrences of life. In order for proper diagnosis and treatment, proper understanding of the hoof disease itself must come first. The discussions listed below are meant to be an introduction to the specifics of some of the more common hoof diseased conditions.
